Golf & Life

I am most fortunate to have become a friend of arguably the greatest golfer of all time - the legendary Jack Nicklaus. The Golden Bear designed a championship golf course for me at The Heritage Golf and Country Club, in the Yarra Valley (the wine growing area east of Melbourne). We then penned a best selling book together - Golf and Life, which is published in the USA and has also been translated into French, Mandarin, Spanish and Korean.

What’s the link between golf and life?  There are indeed many similarities.

In life, as in golf, it’s all about choosing the best options. In life and golf you are playing against yourself, against the hazards of the course and the hazards of your journey. In both games of the utmost importance are self-discipline, honesty and integrity.

Here are some of the lessons from Golf and Life:

  1. You can be conservative, aggressive or smart. In Golf and in Life you need to get smarter as time passes by.
  2. What you need to do is to put yourself in a position to win and then just keep working at it. And when you do get in a winning position, you need to learn how to protect it.
  3. Never give up
  4. Once it’s over, it’s in the past. You can learn from the past, but don’t brood about it.
  5. Eliminate self doubt. Self doubt stinks.
  6. Attitude is everything
  7. In life, if you can shoot close to par numbers on the bad days you are ahead of the pack - way ahead.
