How Do You Rate?

Tuesday, 29 January 2008
These are the nine categories used in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual handbook - used in America to classify mental problems.

Five out of nine of these "symptoms" classifies you as suffering from Major Depression.

  • A persistently low mood

  • A diminished interest or pleasure in almost anything

  • An increase or decrease in appetite leading to gain or loss of weight

  • Too much or too little sleep

  • Fatigue or low energy

  • Fidgety or listless

  • Feelings of worthlessness or guilt

  • Difficulty concentrating or indecisiveness

  • Thoughts of death or suicide

So what do you think?

Should the newspapers and talk shows be highlighting depression day after day?

Are we being over-doctored, over-psyched, over-medicated and over-everythinged?

Are you depressed or are you just having a bad day?
